The Life And Adventures Of Santa Claus Movie 1985

I remember that episode so vividly, and I think it was the first TV death that really affected me. I was also devastated when Molly from A Country Practice died. I was ten or eleven at the time, and staying with my cousins around the same age, and we were all bawling our eyes out. But probably the TV death that affected me most deeply was the death of Lou in Love My Way. I had no idea it was coming, and was just shattered beyond belief, almost as if the death had happened to someone I knew. I remember just crying and crying, and not even being able to see a photo of her in the TV guide without bursting into tears. I think it was such a shock, as it's so unusual for a TV show to kill off the character of a young child, and she was such a central character. But wow, what a brilliantly moving series - one of the best things I've ever seen on Australian television. Actually I'm annoyed about that last one and I haven't liked the series as much since all the major players have up and left. It must look so ridiculous me there holding a book sobbing. I mean, why wouldn't I just put it down and pull myself together. Lisa.

Hysterically funny testimonials from legends Kris Kristofferson, Levon Helm and Merle Haggard, along with archival footage of infamous incidents in country-music history, combine to create a persistently witty and satirical 'honky tonk-umentary' of the music industry and its need to cannibalize and glamorize its past.

Where Should the Limits of Representation Be Set in YA Fiction. Notwithstanding the many strengths and innovations that readers have discovered in Alexie’s novel, it must be recognized that responses to the book have not been consistently positive. Several reviewers and parents expressed their concern that the treatment given to difficult issues such as sexuality, alcoholism or death itself was not befitting for young adults. Meghan Cox Gurdon, among others, has described recent teen fiction—in which she includes TATD— as “a hall of fun-house mirrors, constantly reflecting back hideously distorted portrayals of what life is” (Gurdon 2011). According to this critic, young readers are unnecessarily exposed to pain, loss and brutality that can hardly be expected to make their lives easier or happier. Certainly, Alexie’s YA novel is not characterized precisely by looking into the most cheerful aspects of teenage life: “There are all kinds of addicts, I guess. Junior is not one who would try to candy-coat serious problems such as his new sweetheart’s bulimia or his father’s alcoholism. We lost our native land, we lost our languages, we lost our songs and dances. We lost each other. We only know how to lose and be lost’” (173). Alexie responded to the complaints raised by Gurdon and other reviewers in a post entitled “Why the Best Kids’ Books Are Written in Blood”, which appeared in the Wall Street Journal. As the Native American author saw it, all these endeavors to prevent young readers from learning about the grimmest facets of contemporary life came “way, way too late” (Alexie 2011).
